This session equips orthotists with evidence-based strategies for integrating MPKAFOs into care by highlighting clinical outcomes, data-driven patient selection, and shared decision-making. Emphasis is placed on improving function and quality of life in both pediatric and adult populations through personalized, patient-centered approaches.

Learning Objectives:

  • Interpret clinical outcomes from both pediatric and adult users of microprocessor knee-ankle-foot orthoses (MPKAFOs) to evaluate impacts on mobility, balance, pain interference, and quality of life.
  • Apply evidence-based strategies and real-world data to guide patient selection, device matching, and clinical justification for MPKAFO interventions.
  • Integrate shared decision-making principles into clinical practice to align MPKAFO prescriptions with patient goals, enhance communication, and manage expectations across diverse populations, including pediatric cases.
