Black/African American adults are more likely to undergo lower limb amputations (LLA) than White counterparts. Yet, relatively little research has described health-related experiences post-amputation contributing to long-term health outcomes. Thus, this qualitative study sought to explore the post-amputation experiences of Black/African American adults with LLA to promote improved health outcomes.
Learning Objectives:
Upon reviewing this abstract and presentation, individuals will have an adequate understanding of health disparities among Black/African American individuals as it relates to lower limb amputation.
Upon completion, individuals will gain an understanding of the reported value of multidisciplinary, continued healthcare for Black/African American individuals living with lower limb amputation.
Upon completion, individuals will learn about reported healthcare mistrust and skepticism among the study participants and will gain insight into the unique role that prosthetists play in rebuilding trust with this population.
