Eric M. Lamberg, PT, EdD, CPed, serves as the Associate Dean and Professor within the School of Health Professions at Stony Brook University. A nationally recognized expert in rehabilitation science, Dr. Lamberg’s academic work is dedicated to the optimization of human performance, with a specialized research focus on prosthetics, orthotics, people living with limb loss and adaptive athletics.
Dr. Lamberg is a pioneer in providing evidence-based research for adaptive sports, bridging the gap between clinical rehabilitation and high-level athletic performance. His investigations into gait mechanics and balance in individuals with limb loss have been instrumental in understanding the unique physical demands placed on adaptive athletes. By analyzing athletic ability within sports such as amputee soccer, his work helps inform training protocols, injury prevention strategies, and organizational requirements to maximize functional outcomes for this population and to deliver quality programming.
Beyond the laboratory, Dr. Lamberg is a central figure in the global governance and development of the sport. He currently serves as the President of the American Amputee Soccer Association (since 2020) and sits on the Executive Committee as a board member for the World Amputee Football Federation. His leadership is informed by a decade of on-field experience; as the former Head Coach of the U.S. National Amputee Soccer Team, which he successfully led the squad to multiple World Cup tournaments including the 2014 and 2018 Cups in Mexico and the 2022 Cup in Turkey.
Ultimately, Dr. Lamberg seamlessly integrates his background in physical therapy, movement science, and education to drive innovation in adaptive rehabilitation. Through his dual roles in academia and international sport, he continues to champion the adaptive and limb-loss community, ensuring that athletes across the globe have the scientific backing, clinical support, and opportunities necessary to participate.
