Dr. Balkman is an Assistant Professor in the University of Washington (UW) Department of Rehabilitation Medicine. He is a researcher at the University of Washington Center on Outcomes Research in Rehabilitation (UWCORR) and a faculty member in the Division of Prosthetics and Orthotics. Dr. Balkman has served as PI on multiple small grant awards funded by the American Orthotic and Prosthetic Association (AOPA) to develop the Orthotic Patient-Reported Outcomes—Mobility (OPRO-M) item bank, a population-specific survey instrument for assessing mobility of people who use lower limb orthoses. He is also a co-investigator for studies to develop and test outcome measures for people who use lower limb prostheses. He has training and expertise in research study design, survey development, and outcomes assessment. He also has five years of clinical experience, providing orthotic and prosthetic care in California and Washington State.
