Debra Latour, OT, OTD, OTR, FAOTA is a registered occupational therapist, and owner of Single-Handed Solutions, LLC, providing consulting services to manufacturers, researchers, clinical providers and individuals with upper limb absence. Dr. Latour graduated from BSOT/Tufts University (1978) and earned a post-professional M.Ed. (Advanced Practice OT) from Springfield College (2006) and post-professional OTD at A.T. Still University (2018). Dr. Latour is currently the Doctoral Capstone Coordinator and Associate Professor of Occupational Therapy at Western New England University. Her areas of interest include upper limb prosthetic development and rehabilitation, population health and wellness, global health, inter-professional collaboration, advocacy, and policy, as well as program development. Dr. Latour was the recipient of the College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences Faculty Research Award (2019) and the Faculty of the Year Award (2020). She was also awarded the Catherine Anne Trombly Award for Contribution to Occupational Therapy Education and Research (2022) from the Massachusetts Association for Occupational Therapy. Recently Dr. Latour was named to the Roster of Fellows of the American Occupational Therapy Association (2024) for contributions to education and practice. She has been an active member of the Amputee Coalition and past chair of its Upper Limb Advisory Council; Association of Children’s Prosthetic and Orthotic Clinics (ACPOC), American Academy of Orthotics and Prosthetics (AAOP), American Telehealth Association (ATA), American College of Rehabilitation Medicine (ACRM) and American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA). Dr. Latour has a congenital upper limb difference, is an active prosthesis-user and shares her experiences and tips through her blog at www.Single-HandedSolutions.blogspot.com. She is the author of patented prosthetic technology, application, and methodology, copyrighted upper limb prosthetic courses and programs, and several textbook chapters. In her spare time, Dr. Latour volunteers in the community, enjoys biking and hiking with her husband, gardening, calligraphy, needlework and painting, travel, and socializing with friends and family (especially her grandchildren!), and her two Dobermans.
